Pavel Datsyuk’s power-play goal lifts Red Wings over Flames

Detroit, MI, United States (AHN Sports) – Pavel Datsyuk scored a 5-on-3 power play goal in the third period to break a 4-3 tie and spark the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Moments later, when Detroit was even strength, Valtteri Filppula scored for the Red Wings for the two-goal lead.

Earlier in the period, Tomas Holmstrom had scored his second goal of the game for the Red Wings but Olli Jokinen followed with a power play goal late in the period to tie the game 3-3.

Ian White scored his fourth goal of the season 7:34 into the second period to put the Red Wings in a 2-2 tie with the Flames.

Datsyuk assisted White on the game-tying goal.

Jarome Iginla tied the game 1-1 just 54 seconds into the period with his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Alex Taguay. Less than two minutes later Brendan Morrison turned on the red light for his first goal of season, assisted by Tim Jackman.

The Red Wings opened the scoring early in the first period on Tomas Holmstrom’s second goal of the season, assisted by Nicklas Lidstrom and Jiri Hurdler.

The Red Wings had a 30-22 edge in shots. Jimmy Howard has 19 saves for Detroit. Miikka Kiprusoff had 25 for Calgary.

Detroit is 12-7-1 while Calgary is 8-11-1.
